Santa Clara Valley Water District appoints new CEO

The Santa Clara Valley Water District board of directors has appointed Beau Goldie to serve as the new chief executive officer (CEO). Goldie, who currently serves as chief operating officer for Capital Program Services Division at the water district, is scheduled to assume the role currently held by interim CEO Sharon Judkins on June 1, 2009.

WUWC writes to Commerce and Interior about Kempthorne Rule, transparency

Hamlet "Chips" Barry, WUWC chairman, recently wrote to Secretary of the Interior Kenneth Salazar and Commerce Secretary Gary Locke requesting the administration apply relevant procedural laws to all future actions involving the Kempthorne Rule. In the letter, Barry explains that WUWC supports the administration's stated commitment to transparency in government.

WUWC writes Congress about water project priorities

In January 2009, WUWC sent letters regarding the determination of water project priorities under the Economic Stimulus Program to the senators and representatives of the six states with WUWC agencies.

Groups urge Congress to address water resource impacts of climate change

WUWC is working with other major water associations to address the impacts of climate change on U.S. water resources. In May 2008, WUWC and seven other national water agencies sent a position statement to Congress regarding the water resource impacts of climate change in advance of consideration of the Lieberman-Warner Climate Security Act.
