The Central Arizona Project (CAP) is a 336 mile long aqueduct system designed to carry up to 1.8 million acre feet of Colorado River water to Maricopa, Pima and Pinal counties in Arizona. CAP's customers include cities, water utilities, irrigation districts and Native American communities. CAP also stores water underground in managed recharge projects located throughout its service territory.
Mission
As the manager of Arizona's single largest renewable water supply, Central Arizona Project's mission is to:
- Deliver its full allocation of Colorado River water to central Arizona reliably, cost effectively and in an environmentally sound manner with the highest regard for employee safety and health, evolving public needs and customer satisfaction
- Preserve the public's trust and the long-term viability of CAP by promoting responsible water use; effectively managing and protecting its human, financial and captial resources and repaying its reimbursable constructions costs
