The San Diego County Water Authority is a wholesale water agency. The Water Authority works through its 24 member agencies to provide a safe and reliable supply to support the region’s $171 billion economy and the quality of life of 3 million residents.
The California Legislature created the Water Authority in 1944. The first imported water arrived in the county in November 1947. The Water Authority serves 97 percent of San Diego County’s population, covering a service area of 920,000 acres and operating nearly 300 miles of pipeline.
